The 2026 British Academy Film Awards ceremony took place Sunday at London's Royal Festival Hall, hosted by Alan Cumming. Paul Thomas Anderson's 'One Battle After Another' — described variously as a politically charged thriller, counterculture comedy, and dark comedy about revolutionaries in conflict with the state — won six awards: best film, best director, best adapted screenplay, best cinematography, best editing, and best supporting actor for Sean Penn. The film had entered with 14 nominations.
Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners,' a vampire thriller/epic that led Oscar nominations with a record 16, won three BAFTAs: best original screenplay, best supporting actress for Wunmi Mosaku, and best original score. Chloé Zhao's 'Hamnet,' about William Shakespeare's wife Agnes and their son's death, won outstanding British film and best actress for Jessie Buckley — the first Irish performer to win leading actress.
In the night's biggest surprise, British actor Robert Aramayo won best actor for playing Tourette syndrome campaigner John Davidson in 'I Swear,' beating favorites Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, Ethan Hawke, and Jesse Plemons. Aramayo also won the rising star award earlier in the evening. Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales attended the ceremony, three days after William's uncle Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested and questioned for 11 hours regarding allegations he sent sensitive government information to Jeffrey Epstein.
