On Monday afternoon, Robert Dorgan, 56, attended a high school hockey game at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where his teenage son Colin was playing a Senior Night game. Dorgan shot and killed his ex-wife, Rhonda Dorgan, 52, and their adult son Aidan Dorgan, 23. Three others — Rhonda's parents Linda and Gerald Dorgan, and family friend Thomas Geruso — were critically wounded.
Bystander Michael Black intervened, leaping over seats to grab Dorgan's pistol and jamming his hand in the chamber to prevent further shots. Dorgan subsequently pulled a second firearm and died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police recovered two legally owned firearms: a Glock 10mm and a SIG Sauer P226.
Police Chief Tina Goncalves described the attack as targeted domestic violence with no prior confrontation visible on surveillance footage. Dorgan also used the name Roberta Esposito and had undergone gender reassignment surgery in 2020. Court records show a documented history of family conflict tied partly to the transition — including a dismissed charge against Dorgan's father-in-law — and a 2021 divorce. No official motive has been announced.
Dorgan's daughter from another relationship, Amanda Wallace-Hubbard, described it as a 'vendetta against the family.' Victim Aidan Dorgan was a recent mechanical engineering graduate who had just begun a career at a naval shipbuilding firm.
