A shooting occurred around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2026, inside an apartment at the Hugine Suites student residential complex at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Three men were shot. One died at the scene, another died at a nearby hospital, and a third was wounded—his condition has not been disclosed. The campus went into lockdown immediately after the shooting was reported and the lockdown was lifted around 5 a.m. Friday morning.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the incident. As of Friday morning, no suspect information has been released, and the identities of the victims have not been confirmed publicly. University officials have not confirmed whether the victims were students. Friday classes were canceled and counseling services were made available to students.
This is the second fatal shooting at South Carolina State University during the current academic year. In October 2025, during homecoming weekend, two separate shootings occurred—one killing a 19-year-old woman near the same residential complex, and another injuring a man. None of those victims were students, and several people were arrested on gun-related charges in connection with those incidents.
